Birthday candles hold a certain ritualistic significance, but in this unique design, Ling Ouyang infuses personal perceptions, transforming the candle into a poetic symbol. Wish in the Wind captures the essence of blowing out candles by adding a story to the process - the wishes fly away with the leaves, creating a design that is full of emotion and reflection.
The design of Wish in the Wind not only elevates the form of the birthday candle but also adds a layer of depth and meaning to the experience. By incorporating the concept of wishes floating away with the wind, this design resonates with individuals on a more profound level.
Using silicone mold making techniques, the Wish in the Wind candles are crafted with precision and attention to detail. With dimensions of 1.5-5mm wide and a height of 140mm, these candles are both visually striking and functionally effective.
The project, led by Ling Ouyang and supported by Zhang Jian, began in May 2018 and concluded in August 2018 in Guangzhou. Throughout the design process, the team utilized various research methods, including unconscious design and affordance design, to create a product that truly captures the essence of blowing out birthday candles.
Wish in the Wind has been recognized for its creativity and ingenuity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Giftware Design category in 2019. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit exceptional technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
With Wish in the Wind, blowing out birthday candles becomes a poetic experience. The wishes that we make are no longer confined to the moment, but instead, they take flight with the wind, carrying our hopes and dreams to where they should go.
